The 2018 FIFA World Cup was the 21st edition of the men’s FIFA World Cup and took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. The tournament featured 32 national teams competing across 64 matches in 11 host cities.
France won the tournament, beating Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Goals from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappé, plus an own goal from Mario Mandžukić, helped France win their second World Cup title.
The 2018 World Cup is remembered for Croatia’s run to their first ever final, England reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 1990, and Russia’s surprise quarter-final appearance as host nation. Belgium finished third after beating England in the third-place play-off.
Harry Kane won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, Luka Modrić won the Golden Ball as the competition’s best player, and Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper.
