About the Formula 1 2023 season

The 2023 Formula 1 season was the 74th season of the FIA Formula One World Championship, featuring 22 Grands Prix across five continents. The championship began with the Bahrain Grand Prix in March and concluded with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November. Max Verstappen was crowned Formula 1 World Champion for the third consecutive season following one of the most dominant campaigns in the history of the sport. The Red Bull driver finished the championship with 575 points, more than double the total of his nearest rival, teammate Sergio Pérez. Verstappen won a record 19 of the 22 Grands Prix during the season, including an extraordinary run of ten consecutive victories between the Miami and Italian Grands Prix. He secured the Drivers' Championship during the Qatar Grand Prix weekend with six races still remaining. Red Bull Racing were equally dominant in the Constructors' Championship. Verstappen and Pérez combined to win 21 of the 22 Grands Prix, with the team securing its second consecutive Constructors' title. Red Bull finished the season with 860 points, well ahead of Mercedes in second and Ferrari in third. Sergio Pérez finished runner-up in the Drivers' Championship after winning the Saudi Arabian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. His second-place finish ensured Red Bull achieved a first-ever one-two in the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship. The only Grand Prix not won by Red Bull was the Singapore Grand Prix, where Ferrari's Carlos Sainz produced an impressive performance to take victory. Sainz held off Lando Norris and the two Mercedes drivers in the closing stages to prevent Red Bull from completing a clean sweep of Grand Prix victories. McLaren made significant progress during the second half of the season following major upgrades to their car. Lando Norris recorded seven podium finishes during the campaign, while rookie Oscar Piastri claimed his first Formula 1 Sprint victory in Qatar and finished on the podium in Japan and Qatar. Fernando Alonso also enjoyed an impressive first season with Aston Martin. The two-time World Champion scored eight podium finishes and finished fourth in the Drivers' Championship, helping Aston Martin establish themselves among the leading teams during the opening part of the campaign. The Las Vegas Grand Prix returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2023, with the sport racing along the famous Las Vegas Strip as part of a spectacular new street circuit. Verstappen won the inaugural race on the new layout ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez. The 2023 season ultimately belonged to Verstappen and Red Bull. Verstappen set numerous records during the campaign, including the most Grand Prix victories and championship points achieved by a driver in a single season, while Red Bull produced one of the most dominant seasons by a constructor in Formula 1 history.
