The 2024 Formula 1 season was the 75th season of the FIA Formula One World Championship, featuring 24 Grands Prix across five continents. The championship began with the Bahrain Grand Prix in March and concluded with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, making it the longest Formula 1 season held at the time. Max Verstappen was crowned Formula 1 World Champion for the fourth consecutive season. The Red Bull driver finished the campaign with 437 points, 63 ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris, after winning nine Grands Prix during the year. Verstappen began the season strongly, winning seven of the opening ten races and initially appearing set for another dominant championship campaign. However, the competitive picture changed significantly as the season progressed, with McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all challenging Red Bull for race victories. Lando Norris emerged as Verstappen's closest championship rival during a breakthrough season for McLaren. Norris claimed his first Formula 1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix before adding wins in the Netherlands, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. His teammate Oscar Piastri also enjoyed a successful campaign, taking his first Grand Prix victories in Hungary and Azerbaijan. Verstappen ultimately secured the Drivers' Championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on 23 November 2024. His fifth-place finish was enough to put the title beyond Norris with two rounds remaining, making Verstappen only the sixth driver in Formula 1 history to win at least four World Championships. While Verstappen retained the Drivers' Championship, McLaren claimed the Constructors' Championship following a season-long battle with Ferrari. Norris' victory at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix secured McLaren's first Constructors' title since 1998. McLaren finished with 666 points, ahead of Ferrari on 652 and Red Bull on 589. Ferrari also enjoyed a strong season, with Charles Leclerc winning his home Monaco Grand Prix for the first time before adding victories in Italy and the United States. Carlos Sainz won in Australia and Mexico, helping Ferrari remain in contention for the Constructors' Championship until the final race. Mercedes returned to winning form during the campaign. George Russell won the Austrian and Las Vegas Grands Prix, while Lewis Hamilton produced an emotional victory at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Hamilton's win was his first since 2021 and his record ninth victory at the British Grand Prix. He also won in Belgium following Russell's post-race disqualification. The 2024 season was notable for its competitiveness, with seven different drivers winning a Grand Prix.
