The 2017/18 Premier League was the 26th season of the Premier League, featuring 20 clubs competing across 380 matches between August 2017 and May 2018. Clubs battled for the league title, European qualification and survival in one of the world's most competitive football competitions. Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions after a record-breaking campaign under Pep Guardiola. City became the first team in Premier League history to reach 100 points, earning the nickname "the Centurions", and finished 19 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur finished third, while Liverpool secured fourth place and UEFA Champions League qualification. At the other end of the table, Swansea City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion were relegated to the Championship. Swansea's seven-year stay in the Premier League came to an end, while Stoke were relegated after a decade in the top flight. West Brom finished bottom despite an improved run of results during the closing weeks of the campaign. Liverpool's Mohamed Salah enjoyed an extraordinary debut season at the club, winning the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 32 goals in 36 appearances. His total set a new record for goals scored in a 38-match Premier League season at the time, and he was also named Premier League Player of the Season. Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne claimed the inaugural Premier League Playmaker award with 16 assists, while Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea won the Golden Glove after keeping 18 clean sheets. The season was dominated by Manchester City's record-breaking performances. Guardiola's side scored 106 goals, won 32 matches and recorded 18 consecutive league victories as they established new Premier League records for points, wins and goals in a season. The campaign also saw Burnley finish seventh and qualify for European competition for the first time in more than 50 years.
