The 2019/20 Premier League was the 28th season of the Premier League, featuring 20 clubs competing across 380 matches between August 2019 and July 2020. Clubs battled for the league title, European qualification and survival in one of the world's most competitive football competitions. Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions, securing their first English league title in 30 years and their first since the creation of the Premier League. Jürgen Klopp's side produced a dominant campaign, winning 26 of their opening 27 league matches and eventually finishing 18 points ahead of Manchester City. Manchester United finished third, while Chelsea claimed the final UEFA Champions League qualification place. At the other end of the table, Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich City were relegated to the Championship. Aston Villa secured survival by a single point after a dramatic final day, while Bournemouth's five-season stay in the Premier League came to an end despite victory over Everton in their final match. Leicester City's Jamie Vardy claimed the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 23 goals, becoming the oldest player to win the award. Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne won the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Golden Playmaker after providing 20 assists, equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League record for assists in a single season. Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson won the Golden Glove after keeping 16 clean sheets, while Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold was named Young Player of the Season. The season was one of the most unusual in Premier League history. Competition was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming in June behind closed doors, with the final matches played in July. Liverpool eventually secured the title with seven matches remaining, setting a record at the time for the earliest Premier League title victory in terms of games left to play, while simultaneously becoming the latest champions by calendar date because of the suspension.
