Why can't I follow whole sports or competitions on Free?

The Free plan is designed for focused personal follows, such as one team (e.g. Arsenal), one specific event (e.g. a match between two teams) or a season-style sport (e.g. Formula 1) Whole sports and whole competitions add many fixtures, so those broader follows need Premium.
If you added a whole sport or competition during a free trial, it may be paused when your account moves to the Free plan. The rule is not deleted. It stays visible in Settings so you can understand what changed and upgrade later if you want to reactivate it.
What Free is intended for
The Free plan is a simple way to keep a focused sports calendar active. It works best when you follow something specific, for example:
- a team you support
- an individual fixture or event
- a season-style sport where SportCalendar supports that behaviour
This keeps the Free plan useful without turning a personal calendar feed into a large data export.
Why whole competitions need Premium
Following a whole competition, such as an entire football league, can add a much larger set of fixtures than following one team. Following a whole fixture-heavy sport can be larger again.
Premium is the plan for normal fans who want broader personal follows, including whole sports and whole competitions where available.
What happens after a trial ends
During a trial, you can try Premium-style follows. If the trial ends and your account moves to Free, broad whole-sport or whole-competition rules may be paused. Your Settings page will show the rule and explain why it is not active.
You can keep using Free with a focused follow, or upgrade to Premium to reactivate broader sport and competition follows.
